Top 5 Fashion and Music Collaborations

1. Queens – Frontman Freddy Mercury alone is a music genius. People would buy their records for their music for their music sake but their concerts are a visual feast with pyrotechnics, huge lighting rigs, massive sound systems and leotards? Freddy Mercury frequently wore leotards reminiscent of his seventies attire. You might also remember him in drag singing “I Want To Break Free”, just one of his many coming-out-of-the-closet songs.

2. Lady Gaga – Do you know that her stage name “Lady Gaga” was actually inspired by one of the songs of Queen? It is true, the title of the song was Radio Gaga. So if Lady Gaga was inspired in more ways than one by the Queen, it should not come as a surprise to us about her bold fashion choices. Remember the telephone hairdo in her music video with Beyonce
“Telephone”, her meat gown for an awards show and the Mother Monster inside the egg costume are just some of the memorable fashion and music ensemble she donned. Wait! Don’t forget the 24 carat gold wheelchair she used while recovering from a hip surgery!

3. Michael Jackson – He is very much deceased but not his fashion and music. A lot of people still wear his “Thriller” costume during Halloweens and special presentations. He transformed into a zombie and then a moon – walking man wearing his black sequined jacket, white shirt, black pants and shoes. But when he was younger, still a member of the Jackson 5, you can see him belting tunes in psychedelic prints. Now, that’s unforgettable!

4. Spice Girls – Sooooo tell me what you want, what you really, really want? Their reunion performance in the London Olympics just made us remember why we loved them in the first place. Anyone who grew up with them would either fall into one of the five camps: Baby, Scary, Ginger, sporty or Posh. The camps represent different personalities and taste in fashion. Posh aka Victoria Beckham may have been in the lead when it comes to fashion. Sad that they have to be disbanded though.

5. Beyonce – She is Mrs. Carter now but way back, Beyonce and her mom Tina Knowles started their own fashion line. The name is House of Dereon. It was fueled by fans of Destiny’s Child wanting to wear what their group is wearing. She has fashion and music plus business. Way to go Queen B!

American Hustle: Characters and Style

American Hustle is another film from the award winning director David O. Russell. His portfolio includes critically acclaimed ‘The Fighter’ and “2012 Oscar Best Picture” winner ‘Silver Linings Playbook’ starring Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence.

American Hustle like the previous works of David O. Russell was also nominated for Oscars Best Picture but failed to bring home the award. Despite not winning the coveted Oscar statue, the movie made quite an impression to a lot of people not just because of the story but mostly because of the creative fashion styling done to each of the characters. Another Oscar contender ‘The Great Gatsby’ vied for the Best in Costume but the award went to American Hustle costume designer Michael Wilkinson.

American Hustle Characters in Style

Here’s a look at the memorable outfits worn by the start-studded cast of the American Hustle.

Amy Adams as Sidney Prosser

Everyone is just as surprise when the usually conservative-looking Amy Adams wore the sexiest outfits in the movie. Most of the ensemble are consists of plunging necklines, leg-baring slits and sheer tops. It was a complete contrast compared to the previous characters she portrayed. Michael Wilkinson shared to the press that the looks of Amy Adams are inspired by Sidney Prosser’s boldness and at the same time vulnerability. No double-sided tapes were used to keep every piece of the fabric (what little of it) in place.

Jennifer Lawrence as Rosalyn Rosenfeld

Doritos plus JLaw plus sexy white dress is equals to one wardrobe malfunction. Apparently, JLaw got Dorito cheese stains on her dress while filming the movie. You won’t see any in the film though. The wardrobe team got back-ups of the signature gown JLaw wore in the casino-scene. David O. Russell made specific instructions for the costume styling. The white gown hugged the figure of the actress in all the right areas and Wilkinson also recalled that “he [Russell] wanted to see every single lump and bump”.

Christian Bale as Irving Rosenfeld

Christian Bale reportedly gained 40 pounds for the role of Irving Rosenfeld, the main character in the movie. Perhaps the title for ‘biggest transformation’ should be his. His transformation is like an official goodbye and declaration that “Nope. No more Batman for me!”.

If the girls got the battle of the gowns, the guys did quite battle on some level with their hairstyles. Although it was a sure win for Bradley Cooper’s curls, Jeremy Renner is not doing so bad himself. With his all-powerful Mister Mayor character, Renner sported an Elvis Presly-esque hairdo.
